A set of overlays for the TrimUI Brick (and other 1024x768 resolution devices).

Device borders taken from Krutz Otrem's repo with the following modifications:

  • Logo text dimmed by 90%.
  • Replaced reflections from CRTs with clean scanlines.
  • Replaced color corrective grids from handheld systems with clean grids.

Usage

NextUI

The png images in the Overlays directory can be copied to /Overlays/[System]/overlay1.png on your SD card, where [System] is replaced by the part in parenthesis in your Roms folder name. For example if you have games in /Roms/Game Boy (GB) then you should copy the gb.png to /Overlays/GB/overlay1.png on your SD card. To use the overlay, while playing a game hit the menu button and enter Options -> Frontend and select "overlay1.png" as your overlay. Other recommended system-specific settings are noted below (the resolution setting is the only necessary one, the rest are just suggestions).

See the NextUI documentation on overlays for more details.

  • For CRT systems: Full screen resolution, linear screen sharpness.
    • Alt borderless overlay for systems that do not compensate for overscan.
  • For handheld systems: Native resolution, nearest screen sharpness.
    • Enable simple screen ghosting in emulator settings.
    • Enable color correction for GBC and GBA in emulator settings.
    • Alt tinted versions of NGP and NGPC for emulators without color correction.

Knulli

Create a folder /userdata/decorations/trimui-brick-overlays-clean, and copy the systems directory from batocera-bezels into it. The final location of the files should look like /userdata/decorations/trimui-brick-overlays-clean/systems/gb.info. Boot into Knulli, press Start to bring up the Knulli system menu, navigate to Game Settings->Decorations, and change the Decoration Set to trimui-brick-overlays-clean (or whatever you named the folder if you chose something different).

Recommended Settings:

For each handheld system you play (gb, gbc, gba, ngp, ngpc, wswan, wswanc, and lynx), you will want to adjust the display settings. From the Knulli system menu, navigate to Game Settings->Per System Advanced Configuration->{Handheld System Name}->Game Rendering & Shaders, and make the following adjustments:

  • Turn Smooth Games (Bilinear Filtering) off.
  • Turn Integer Scaling (Pixel Perfect) on.

Note that games which run using non-standard resolutions (for example vertical oriented arcade and Wonderswan games) will probably not load the bezels, as the layouts have only been designed for the horizontal orientation of those systems.
